Every Roof Needs
Two Warranties

M

Manufacturer Warranty

Issued by the shingle maker and covers defects in the materials themselves. Basic versions are prorated and shrink in value every year. As a GAF Factory Certified contractor, Sky Ridge can register enhanced system warranties with non-prorated material coverage for up to 50 years — coverage uncertified roofers cannot offer at any price.

  • Material defects: shingles, ridge caps, starter strips
  • Enhanced tiers add manufacturer-paid labor for covered defects
  • One-time transfer option on qualifying systems
W

Workmanship Guarantee

Issued by the contractor and covers how the roof was installed. This is the coverage that matters most: the majority of roof failures come from flashing, fastening, and ventilation errors — not defective shingles. Sky Ridge stands behind every installation and repair with a written workmanship guarantee, built to the Wasatch Build Standard.

  • Installation errors: flashing, transitions, fastening
  • Repairs guaranteed water-tight at the repaired detail
  • Photo-backed forensic audit documents what was built

What Voids A
Roof Warranty
In Utah.

Most voided warranties aren't voided by storms — they're voided on installation day. Utah's heat, snow loads, and canyon winds make these exclusions bite harder here than almost anywhere else.

  • Unbalanced Attic Ventilation

The #1 silent killer. The "Wasatch Bake" cooks under-ventilated shingles, and manufacturers deny claims when intake and exhaust are out of spec.

  • Layover Installations

Installing new shingles over an old layer voids most enhanced coverage and hides deck rot.

  • Mixed-Brand Components

Pairing one brand’s shingles with another’s underlayment or ridge vents breaks system warranty eligibility.

  • Improper Fastening

High-nailing or 4-nail patterns fail in canyon winds — and give the manufacturer an easy out on the claim.

  • Unauthorized Penetrations & Repairs

Satellite mounts, swamp cooler installs, and patch jobs by uncertified crews can void coverage on the whole slope.

Roof Warranty Questions

What Utah homeowners ask before signing a roofing contract.

What is the difference between a manufacturer warranty and a workmanship guarantee?

A manufacturer warranty covers defects in the roofing materials themselves and is issued by the manufacturer, such as GAF. A workmanship guarantee covers installation errors and is issued by the contractor. Most real-world roof failures trace back to installation details like flashing, fastening, and ventilation, so a long material warranty means little without written workmanship coverage behind it.

What voids a roof warranty in Utah?

The most common ways Utah homeowners void coverage are unbalanced attic ventilation, installing new shingles over an old layer, mixing components from different manufacturers, improper nailing patterns, unauthorized penetrations like satellite dishes or swamp cooler mounts, and repairs performed by uncertified crews. Missing warranty registration paperwork can also limit enhanced coverage.

Are roof warranties transferable when I sell my home?

Qualifying manufacturer-backed warranties include a one-time transfer option to the next homeowner within a set window after the sale, which is a genuine resale advantage. Basic contractor warranties from uncertified installers usually end when the property changes hands.

Does choosing a cheap bid affect my warranty?

Often, yes. Low bids commonly cut the details that warranties depend on: fewer nails per shingle, reused flashing, skipped ice and water shield, and no ventilation correction. Uncertified contractors also cannot register enhanced manufacturer warranties, so you may only receive basic prorated material coverage with no labor protection.

How do I make a roof warranty claim?

Contact Sky Ridge Roofing first. Because we document every project with photo-backed forensic audits, we can match the issue against the installed system, determine whether it falls under material or workmanship coverage, and handle the manufacturer claim paperwork with you.
